STATE APPROVES NEW KERNERSVILLE HOSPITAL

On July 26, 2007 the State of North Carolina approved Forsyth Medical Center's request to build a new hospital in Kernersville. The new $84 million, 50-bed Kernersville Medical Center will be located on 70 acres near the Forsyth / Guilford County line bordered by Interstate 40 on the south and Macy Grove and Wishbone Farm roads on the east. Forsyth Medical Center can now move forward to apply for the appropriate rezoning of the site and site plan approval from the Town of Kernersville.

Approval for the new hospital comes 14 months after FMC's initial filing with the state in May of 2006 to build the facility.
We are very pleased to be able to move forward with the hospital and believe this location is excellent for the current residents of Kernersville and for the significant future growth that is projected to occur in this area.
Kernersville Medical Center will include:
- Forty-six (46) acute care medical-surgical bed
- A four-bed intensive care unit
- Four surgical operating rooms
- An emergency department with 14 treatment rooms
- Imaging services such as CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, X-ray and mobile MRI
- Laboratory and pharmacy services
The start of construction is contingent on a rezoning of the property by the Kernersville Board of Aldermen which will be considered by the end of 2007. The projected time frame to open the new hospital is approximately 18 months from the beginning of construction. FMC also is working closely with the town on options to provide access to the hospital from Hwy. 66.
KERNERSVILLE AREA RESIDENTS WERE INSTRUMENTAL IN BRINGING A NEW HOSPITAL TO THE COMMUNITY.
Thousands of Kernersville area residents participated in the effort to bring a new hospital to the community and were instrumental in gaining state approval. More than 5,000 residents sent letters, e-mails and signed petitions of support for the new facility.
The hospital effort was supported by the Save Kernersville's Hospital Committee, a group of volunteers whose efforts were essential in bringing the hospital to Kernersville.
